Ton Nu Thi Ninh

HPDF President, Project Conceptor

A not-for-profit HPDF (Ho Chi Minh City Peace and Development Foundation) initiative to:

  • Connect the Vietnamese inside and outside Viet Nam and stimulate two-way engagement and cooperation between the diaspora and Viet Nam
  • Share synergizing lessons of success among the Vietnamese, especially towards younger generations, and shine a light on Viet Nam’s rising nation brand.

The Concept

The Việt Nam Moment is now!

The initiative is premised on

01

The deep conviction that what makes the heart and soul of Viet Nam, the power and identity of Viet Nam’s nation brand is its people, the Vietnamese, wherever they may be, within Viet Nam and across the globe.

02

The powerful realization that after five decades of reconstruction and development Viet Nam’s and the Vietnamese’s moment has come: to shine and share their rise to self-affirmation and proud contributions to most diverse avenues of human endeavor

Viet Nam from different perspectives

03

The Vietnamese inside Viet Nam are nearing 100 million people while the diaspora has grown to 5.3 million individuals across 135 countries. However the spread of the diaspora’s settlement is not its only characteristic: it now also shines with diverse notable and outstanding achievements, especially among second and third-generation persons of Vietnamese descent

04

The younger generation of Vietnamese nationals has visibly benefited from the country’s increasingly broad and multifaceted international integration. And today one is witnessing a burgeoning trend toward returning home or moving to Viet Nam to search for or to grow opportunities for business ventures, technological innovation, education, artistic creation, cultural heritage preservation, or community projects, a.s.o.

An initiative aimed at capturing the zeitgeist

05

The initiative aims to capture the moment to identify and affirm Viet Nam’s national brand. This can be achieved through mutual discovery, exchange, support, and cooperation across borders and regardless of background, as well as self-discovery, learning, sharing, and growing with other Vietnamese, especially the younger generations. To that end, it is proposed to organize in Viet Nam the first Viet Nam Forum – Viet Nam: The Moment on 16 – 17 August, 2024.

06

This is not intended as an official, formal conference but as a multifaceted forum or space of mutual understanding, engagement, exchange, and cooperation among Vietnamese inside and outside the country. It will feature diverse activities (keynotes, debates, and panel discussions, fireside chats, life journey storytelling, engagement & networking spaces, AMA sessions,…), performances, and exhibits showcasing the broad and rich diversity of lifelong journeys and remarkable achievements by the Vietnamese within Viet Nam and across the world. In line with the goals and spirit of the VietNam the Moment initiative an empirical survey on VietNam Nation Brand and Viet Identity is being conducted prior to the Forum and preliminary results will be presented at the Forum. Another highlight of the Viet Nam Forum will be the launch of a virtual interactive global atlas of Vietnamese talent and expertise.

The Three Themes (3Cs)

The nexus of
Culture - Connectivity - Creativity

Culture anchors and identifies national communities through time and space. Culture is a living whole of myriad diversities, which evolves through time and life, and infuses national traditions with the breath of the times and of humanity.
Culture must be creative if it is to endure, each future generation nurturing, renewing, and enriching further the nation’s cultural heritage.
Thanks to technology, the Viet community and each Vietnamese as well as each individual of Vietnamese descent can connect, interact, and create more effective momentum and needed resources to spur and nurture creativity.
The Forum hopes to showcase the crucial circular linkages between these 3 Cs.

Connectivity

The advances of technology enable the connectivity needed to foster and facilitate contacts, interaction, exchanges, and effective and meaningful cooperation among Vietnamese inside and outside the country – Connectivity brings Vietnamese together, as well as Viet Nam and the Vietnamese to the world and the world to Viet Nam and the Vietnamese.

Creativity

As Viet Nam breaks free from widespread poverty into a truly developing country, steadily rising and integrating the global supply chain and the world economy, Viet Nam and the Vietnamese are demonstrating creativity in various fields (from technological to artistic) and forms, which needs to be further stimulated and nurtured so as to enable Vietnamese culture to blossom into the future.

Culture

In all its (time, type, and form) dimensions is what endures through time and tests and trials of life and history. It is, can be and should be what brings people of shared descent together. The Forum hopes to show how the Vietnamese treasure and breathe life in innumerable forms into the vastness and depths of Viet culture in its rich interactions and manifestations.
